Skydance is apparently reshuffling things around. However, the STARFLEET ACADEMY effect may still be partially to blame.

Original story below.

Paramount Plus, the online streaming service that’s supposedly the “home of Star Trek” is pulling out of Japan’s Amazon Prime!

The following email has been sent to all subscribers, saying that Paramount Plus will no longer be available for Amazon Prime Japan customers as of March 31st of this year, 2026. Refunds will be issued.

Here is the email in its entirety

Actual Email from Amazon Prime Japan

Paramount Plus has not been well received in Japan. With SpongeBob SquarePants beings the primary driving force, and most of that programming straightly available from Amazon Prime, offering the service that has reportedly had dismal ratings and atrocious user base no longer seems viable for the network.

In January of 2026, Paramount allowed their final contract with Netflix to expire, removing all STAR TREK programming from Netflix internationally. Until that time, Netflix hosted all STAR TREK series, except for Alex Kurtzman-produced shows until the end of year, 2025. TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT were all available on Netflix Japan. When the Netflix contract ended and STAR TREK was taken off, Paramount Plus listed Japan as one of the international outlets that will be getting the complete STAR TREK series library.

This was never the case as it never materialized.

With the dismal performance of STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY, and no one rewatching the other shows, this seems to be the logical move. The latest episode of STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY featured an x-rated sex scene which did not win over fans, nor the Japanese as a whole. Thus, Paramount Plus probably won’t be missed, as STARFLEET ACADEMY has lost its audience.

This is a developing story.

The latest episode of STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY featured an x-rated sex scene which did not win over fans, nor the Japanese as a whole.
