You may have seen those full page ads on your tech feeds recently. In a keynote speech last Friday, Dominion Architecture’s CEO and founder Rena Steele turned the world of IT upside down with what she said she thought would be a “quiet afternoon doomscrolling short.” Steele announced that “Project Wayfinder,” which was once a conspiracy theorists’ go-to for all things “tech government coverup,” was not only real but was actively in a bidding war with every major tech conglomerate in the solar system for exclusivity.
“With a neural processing unit that has passed every single standard test we can give it, we are extremely confident in the product that everyone will want,” Co-Chair, CFO and older brother to Rena, Alexander Steele, mentioned in a blog post on EarthNet5 after the keynote. “We are very excited for show the world what Wayfinder can do!”
Abdul Md Ibrahim Rehyas, Sol Guild trade and economic minister, came out swinging against Dominion Architecture and their attempt to corner the market. “Other agencies like Polaris Infrastructure on Ceres have expressed concern over Dominion’s hyper-aggressive campaign for their newest AI.” Rehyas stated that his office had received multiple complaints from other data center infrastructure managers as well from all over the system, citing uncertainties that any one company could be awarded a contract and eliminate everyone else.
“Data centers are very important for storage and information processing,” Rena Steele noted in her keynote. “Our vision is that eventually every data center will be able to efficiently manage the data being stored and moved through each node at a rate a billion times more efficient than humans can handle.”
Jackson Middleton had been an engineer for Sahara Virtual Technologies for eighteen years. After seeing the simulations at what Wayfinder can do, he’s now skeptical that his job will exist after its eventual mass rollout. “Imagine a system that sees a problem, creates its own tickets, and self repairs! We’d be out of the job.”
Minako Murphy from Schenectady, New York’s General Power couldn’t agree more. “It’s deeply concerning. GP’s been around since it was GE back in the mid-20th century. My kids may be facing a future where their own paths to success will be severely limited.”
Pundits and observers have pointed out that applications for meetings with Dominion Architecture have numbered in the thousands, ranging from super rich individuals to multi-planet corporations wanting this new NPU in their infrastructure. One CEO, whose name and company were requested to remain private, said that being awarded a contract with Dominion could change the landscape of data processing forever.
Eden DeMarco of Obsidian Solutions couldn’t have agreed more. “I’m proud to announce that Obsidian has entered the lottery for exclusivity with Dominion Architecture to get Wayfinder integration into our Venus-based data centers.” Obsidian changed the order of things when they revolutionized power management simply by establishing data centers on the surface of Venus. “Combined with our collectors, Wayfinder will usher in the future of data hosting and processing.”
Obsidian, which employs 2.3 million all over the solar system, critics argue up to 60% of that workforce stands to lose their jobs if awarded Wayfinder. “The human casualties would be astounding,” industry expert Daniel Franklin shared on his OpenWorldClosedSystem HomeCast after the keynote. “Like our ancestors in the 2020s, moving as fast as we are into 2100, we stand to lose so much of ourselves. We need to be moving away from AI, following Mars’ example and ban this disaster waiting to happen.”
“When you consider the continuing demand for improved data infrastructure, where more users mean more data, the answer to the ‘why’ of Wayfinder becomes clear,” Steele said in her keynote. Dominion Architecture claims that Wayfinder will reduce data process latency by an unprecedented 99.98949%. “Remarkably precise results in every test we’ve done,” Steele added.
“Consider how much data we need to move around the night sky,” Samantha Fleisher, a professor of interstellar commerce at MIT, said on her video take on EarthNet5. “Right now, for Titan to get the latest information from partner labs on Mercury, it takes a total load time of fifty-one minutes. Add an average NPU into the mix and that time decreases significantly. Add what Dominion promises with Wayfinder and you have near real-time data access across that vast expanse. The promise is too big to ignore and infrastructure bosses all over the solar system know it.”
Dominion says they’ll continue to develop and get Wayfinder ready for general use while the contract bidding continues. “We want to be sure we give the right people the best product we can,” Alexander Steele said after the keynote in an interview with a pundit in EarthNet5. “So we’re going to continue until it’s 100% bug free and the entire solar system can reap the benefits immediately.”
Dominion Architecture spokespeople have not responded to inquiries about when a contract decision is to be made. An automated message about the massive volume of inquiries was the only response received.
