This is going to SHOCK you!
So, you’re browsing through YouTube and you come across a host of videos in your feed. They all show some kind of shocking graphical AI rendition of “hell,” some souls burning, with a headline that reads, “X SIGNS THAT YOU, AS A CHRISTIAN, ARE DOOMED TO HELL!” Each and every time, in every single video, they start off by quoting Matthew 7:21 to 23. I’m going to start off with quoting this, also.
Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesized in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
This immediately followed by them, or some AI text-to-speech voice saying, “This is talking about those who believe. Jesus is talking to Christians here because they do many wonderful things, but their hearts are far from God. No matter how good a Christian you think you are, you’re more than likely on your way to hell and you don’t even know it. Keep watching to see the most shocking sin of all that is sending millions of Christians into outer darkness, even now.”
The sad truth is, many of these videos have an agenda. The telltale sign is this: the very first bible quote they make is Matthew 7:21-23. This is the psy-op. But the real translation is, “Believe the way WE tell you to and obey us.” This is the “believe my way or else” crowd to get people to submit unto their church and their belief system. In more cases than not, they don’t even hide the fact that they’re Catholic. These are producers of videos who claimed that Pope Francis was a good guy and he cared about people, when in fact he was a genocidal maniac who sponsored South American terrorism in Argentina (the Dirty War), and protected pedophiles. He was also anti-Christ, and that is THE one, Christ Jesus.
Let’s take a look at this scripture in context.
The Situation
This is the Sermon on the Mount, the most groundbreaking sermon to have ever been, nor will ever be, given. This is also the infamous, “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” opener in verse 1.
The Lord continues to talk about fruits of those who claim to believe. “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them” He says in verse 20. Backtrack to verse 17, we can see where the Lord was really going with this.
The Harsh Reality
I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But, if you are a Christian and you believe the Gospel, are living for God, even if you’re falling and failing, this much is true: Matthew 7:21 through 23 IS NOT TALKING TO YOU!!
Let me say it loud enough so that the people in the back can hear.
In Matthew 7:21 through 23…
THE LORD IS NOT TALKING TO YOU!!!
What these videos scam you, trying to crush your hope, light, and peace with, is the hope that you don’t read your bible. You don’t have a KJV. AND, they’re betting on you not knowing what the word of God ACTUALLY says here.
Verse-By-Verse
The whole block of text we’re going to look at is actually starting in verse 15.
Why there?
Because it’s here that real target of which the words spoken in verse 21, 22 and 23 are aimed at is made perfectly clear!
Let’s start in verse 15.
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
The very first words of this passage tell you WHO Jesus is talking about!
Jesus doesn’t mince words. He never has and never will. If he was talking to believers, He would’ve said, “Beware believers who are in sin, for they are in danger of hellfire.” But good news: HE DIDN’T!
He targeted false prophets! Who are these creatures? These are people who come to you in righteousness and pretend to care about your soul, but their agenda is made known by their very words.
Who else did something like this?
Satan.
In the Garden of Eden, the serpent flat-out called God a liar, even though Eve correctly, recalled the words of the Lord. The Serpent told Eve “what it meant,” “who it was for,” and “the real intent of what God said.”
Sound familiar?
This is the same formula used by these YouTube videos to get you into submission into their way of thinking (or the Catholic Church’s way of thinking).
Continuing on with verse 16.
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Indeed, the Lord is giving you a tool to figure out who is genuine and who isn’t. These individuals will go against the very word of God, itself, and then quote it back to you as though their way of interpretation is the only one.
We call that gaslighting. “Naah, it doesn’t really say what you think it says! Jesus didn’t say ANYTHING about homosexuality! It’s nowhere in the gospels!”
(Spoiler alert: Mark 10:6 spills it right here when the Lord says to people who challenged him about the law of divorce, “But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife.” I’ve been gaslit before quoting this. “That doesn’t say what it says at all!” is what the other guy cried and claimed).
This is 100% NOT talking about believers who are struggling with unrepentant sin. Not even close! Jesus tells you, flat out, WHO HE IS TALKING TO. It’s black and white, crystal clear. To say otherwise is tantamount to calling the Lord a liar to his face, in real time!
Because, frankly, if you take this entire set to mean that He is warning Christians about fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, that’s what you’re doing.
Period, point-blank.
Continuing on with verse 17:
Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
These videos use verses 17 and 18 to say that if you have unrepentant sin, you cannot bring forth good fruit. “What happens to you if you try? Verse 19 reveals your fate…”
The secret they won’t tell you is this: it’s NOT YOUR FATE! Just because you have some unrepentant sin in your life (a struggle that God has not taken from you for some reason; a wrestling with some kind of addiction, whether it be substance abuse, sex, porn, what have you) doesn’t mean that you’ve given it all, and are crying day and night, to the Lord to deliver you from it. The very narrative of these videos all say, “Oh well, too bad. Burn well!”
It’s disgusting.
I’ll say this: verse 19 does give someone’s fate. The fate of those false prophets who seek to ruin the name of the Lord while taking you down with them!
Who else does that? I wonder…
Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
These are the same people who “do good works” and think that they’re serving God. These are the so-called faith healers, the Joel Osteens, the Benny Hynns, all of those YouTube creators who seek to destroy your hope, peace, faith and light! Those who say that you’ll be here when the Antichrist comes and the Rapture isn’t a real thing. Every single Catholic clergy member. Every single United Methodist Preacher who wears a rainbow flag in the pulpit. Every single individual who went forth and “worked for god” without ANY sign of giving themselves over to Christ as their savior!
THESE ARE THE PEOPLE JESUS SPEAKS TO IN VERSES 21 THROUGH 23!
So, that begs the question:
Who is Jesus referring to when he says “he that doeth the will of my Father”?
This question needs to be reframed.
What IS the will of the Father?
The Apostle Paul tells us exactly what the will of the Father is, in 2 Peter 3:9.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance
(Emphasis: mine)
It’s right there, in plain language.
The will of the Father is that you REPENT!!
What is repentance?
It’s not something you can actually do. It’s something that is given to you by God (2 Timothy 2:25, “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God preadventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;”).
To truly repent, it must needs be the following:
- You must oppose yourself (and side with God)
- It must be given to you by God
- You must accept the truth and surrender all to Christ!
What is unrepentant sin? It’s sin that you haven’t let go of and each time you commit that specific sin, you are always at odds with the Holy Ghost. This may be rebellion, but if you keep screaming out for the Lord in the struggle against it, whether it’s in the heart or in the flesh…. it doesn’t matter because THESE VERSES ARE NOT FOR YOU ANYWAY!.
What is the truth that you must surrender to?
- Romans 3:23: You are a sinner.
- Romans 6:23: You deserve death and to burn in hell.
- Also Romans 6:23: God gives you a way out!
- Romans 5:8: Jesus paid for it all in your place!
- Romans 9:9,10: Call upon Jesus to save you!
- Romans 10:13: The promise that God will save you
THAT is the will of the Father. If you put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, you will be saved! That will NOT be you that Jesus speaks to. If you are a believer NOW, it’s definitely NOT who Christ is talking to.
In the end, simply put your faith and trust in Jesus! He paid it all so that you can live.
